How it works

Three steps, and the third is the one most systems skip.

1. The item gets an identity

An NFC tag or a barcode resolves to one page for that individual item — not the product line, the item. Composition, size, weight, production date and serial number come from the maker.

2. The identity accumulates custody

Owner, keeper and custodian are recorded separately, each with the dates it held. Handing an item on adds to the record instead of overwriting it, so the history is the item's, not the current owner's.

3. The record outlives the first owner

Because custody is a history rather than a field, an item still carries its provenance when it is resold, lent or passed down — which is the part that makes reuse practical rather than sentimental.
